They were granted permission by the Eldorado Community School and the contractor to use the old portions of the School to practice firefighting skills prior to their being torn down. About 30 members from the four districts practiced tactics of hose advancement, rescue, vertical ventilation, and fire ground safety. No fires were actually set but the environment of the old buildings was perfect for the creation of emergency scenarios. The firefighters came away tired but with a wealth of experiences. Unfortunately, the fire consumed at least three structures.

The service was held at Santa Fe Community College following a procession of Santa Fe County and City of Santa Fe fire apparatus and members to the College. Isaac was a full time EMT and firefighter for Santa Fe County and died unexpectedly on 16 March 2012 at the age of 25 years. He will be missed. RIP Isaac.

On arrival, they found that the structure, said to be a chicken coop, had burned itself out leaving a pile of embers and two melted plastic water tanks. Firefighters hosed down the structure to be sure it was completely out and verified that the fire had not spread to surrounding grasses since the wind was strong that day.

The outside temperature was about 15 degrees. The inside temperature was toasty warm and the fire was quickly extinquished. Following an overhaul (cleanup and verification of extinguishment) , the members and equipment returned to their stations to thaw out.

In both incidents, there were only minor injuries.The first two images below are of a two-car accident on Ave Eldorado and Compadres. The next two images are of a two-car accident on the corner of US285 and Ave Eldorado. While EFRS members practice the task of extricating patients from damaged vehicles, this was not needed in the these two accidents. EFRS members implimented traffic control to keep the scene safe until the vehicles could be towed away.

This situation can be deadly without the proper training. In October, 2011, EFRS members participated in a Live Fire training exercise with other members of the Eastern Region fire departments of Santa Fe County. Two old railroad cars have been placed to simulate a building. To practice, a fire is set in the "building" and firefighters practice building entry and fire knockdown with charged hoses while wearing full Personal Protective Equipment and air packs. The experience is invaluable.

In this brush fire along I-25, EFRS firefighters assisted Hondo in a rapid extinquishment of the flames. Small brush fires can get out of hand in a hurry depending on the wind and other conditions. Quick extinquishment is a good thing and the Santa Fe County volunteer firefighters do that well.

EFRS members have also assisted in various other fires this summer including two relatively large and fast moving fires on land 25 miles south of Eldorado on US285. Luckily, no brush fires occured within Eldorado thanks to the vigilance of the residents.

Everyone enjoyed BBQ from Josh’s while they listened to great music by Lisa Carman and her band. In addition, all EFRS vehicles were out on display and the kids had a great time climbing around on them when they were not playing in the bounce houses or eating snocones and riding in the bike rode. Smoky was on scene along with all EFRS members to be sure everything went smoothly and to answer questions.

The Dixon event was held at La Tienda. Eldorado Fire members plus their wildland engine and an ambulance were hand for the event. The wildland engine (Engine 731) was utilized for a few weeks at the Las Conchas fire. The next day, EFRS members dished ice cream at the annual library ice cream social fund raiser. Smoky made an appearance to help the firefighters.
