Extreme drought conditions have helped create a number of brush fires this year in our part of Santa Fe County. In this brush fire along I-25, EFRS firefighters assisted Hondo in a rapid extinquishment of the flames. Small brush fires can get out of hand in a hurry depending on the wind and other conditions. Quick extinquishment is a good thing and the Santa Fe County volunteer firefighters do that well.
EFRS members have also assisted in various other fires this summer including two relatively large and fast moving fires on land 25 miles south of Eldorado on US285. Luckily, no brush fires occured within Eldorado thanks to the vigilance of the residents.
