El Dorado Fire and Rescue Service members responded to a smoke check south of El Dorado Monday night June 13. What they found was a field of horse manure that was spontaneously burning. It turns out that if conditions are just right (warm enough and dry enough), horse manure can and will ignite! While there were small spots of flames, no structures were threatened, but with the dry and windy conditions, something had to be done. Members poured water on the manure to cool it down, thus preventing the possibility that the fire might spread. Click each image to enlarge it.
