Structural Fire

Last updated May 10, 2026

What We Do

When a structure fire is reported, career and volunteer crews respond with a variety of apparatus to protect life, stabilize the incident, and suppress the fire. Responsibilities include:

  • Rapid size-up and establishment of incident command
  • Interior and exterior fire attack using hose lines
  • Search and rescue of occupants within the structure
  • Ventilation — horizontal, vertical, and positive pressure
  • Salvage and overhaul to prevent rekindling
  • Utility control (gas, electric) and scene security
  • Exposure protection for adjacent structures
  • Coordination with law enforcement and utility providers

SFCFD offers classes and training for those members wishing to obtain IFSAC interior firefighter and other certifications.
