What this rig does
Tender 1 is a large-capacity water tender equipped with pump-and-roll technology, making it uniquely capable of suppressing both structural and wildland fires. Water tenders — also called tankers in some regions — are critical in areas like ours in the eastern region of Santa Fe County (El Dorado, Hondo, Glorieta Pass, Galisteo) which lack comprehensive municipal water infrastructure. Tender 1 can draft from any available water source and shuttle water to support engine operations.

Tender 1 — Water Tender
Overview
Tender 1 is a large-capacity water tender equipped with pump-and-roll technology, making it uniquely capable of suppressing both structural and wildland fires. Water tenders — also called tankers in some regions — are critical in areas like ours in the eastern region of Santa Fe County (El Dorado, Hondo, Glorieta Pass, Galisteo) which lack comprehensive municipal water infrastructure. Tender 1 can draft from any available water source and shuttle water to support engine operations.
Pump-and-Roll Technology
Unlike most structural apparatus, Tender 1 can pump water while the vehicle is moving — a capability essential for wildland fire operations. This allows the crew to apply water directly to a fire line as the tender drives along a road or fire break, dramatically increasing coverage speed during initial attack.
Capabilities
- Mobile water supply for structural and wildland operations
- Pump-and-roll wildland fire suppression
- Water shuttling to support sustained engine operations without hydrants
- Drafting from portable tanks
- Nurse tender operations (filling attack engines in the field)
